What is a Corporation?
A corporation (corp) is a group of people in EVE online, usually with similar or aligned interests. This can be anything from Player Vs Player (PVP) combat, to mining, among other options in the sandbox MMO EvE Online.
The best ship in the game is friendship, and a corporation allows you to make friends and unite against numerous challenges, great and small.
Corporations can make up Alliances, which are larger conglomerates of players all working together as a hive towards a goal, usually requiring some amount of PVP.
- Access to more information than might be online in various wikis
- Access to Indy Parks in an alliance (Sometimes called CEZ)
- Access to experience that comes with time playing EVE
- Access to corporation projects
- Access to corporation only fittings
- Access to corporation only fleets
- Some corps and by extension Alliances offer SRP for lost ships
When looking for a corporation, make sure to keep in mind a few pieces of information about the corp and yourself to find the best fit for you!
- Timezone
For the best eve experience, please make sure that you are choosing a corporation that is active when you are!
- Language
Make sure you ask, or read on the corporation page, what the primary language is to help avoid a language barrier.
- Experience
Does the corporation only accept experienced pilots, or are they open to new players? Make sure to ask if there are any requirements that the potential new corporation to ensure a good experience.
- Culture
Ask the recruiters of potential corporations what the culture is like, to help make sure that you find the best place for you to spend your time in EVE.
- Taxes
Make sure to ask how much taxes for the corporation or Alliance (if applicable) take per transaction. In High Sec, anything over 2-5% is usually a scam corporation that offers no benefits for it's members, but the leadership pockets the money. In low sec, with structures, up to 10% is considered acceptable. Null sec, offering the most benefit with held sovereign space, is common to see 15% tax rate, as to support the infrastructure that owning space requires.
