The Class:

DSCAN: (This is the most time intensive portion of the class)

DSCAN is an in-game tool that allows you to see nearby ships (~14 AUs) prior to them landing on the grid within overview/visibility range. This allows you to locate targets, as well as judge when a good time to leave a fight.

First important part you want to go over is to set DSCAN as a floating window. This allows the player to use DSCAN without blocking their entire window.

  • Be sure to mention the shortcut option on the HUD menu next to capacitor and health levels.

Next, is to describe the angle system. Instruct players to first set to 360 degrees and

  • Explain how this allows them to see anything in a full circle around them.
  • Walk through the varying degrees of dscan.
    • Have the pilots align to a combat anomaly and gradually reduce scan range at 15 degree intervals.
    • For this section it is recommended they open the full map view to get bearing on how this works. You can remove this aspect after the pilots have understood this concept within the map overview.

Describe AU vs KM

  • AU is generally more popular than KM
  • KM allows for more precise control and locating of a target but it's harder to use in fast paced situations such as getting tackle, or looking for a safe spot.

Walk the pilots to use the filter settings for th DSCAN menu

  • Focus on PVP for demo but do mention and demonstrate the other filter setting and how they will affect what is shown on screen.
    • Mention they can also filter based on overview settings if they are using a custom overview.

Shortcoming of DSCAN

  • Some ships are Immune to being DSCAN (Combat Recon Class Ships).
  • Cloaked ships will not appear on DSCAN.
  • DSCAN shows both friendly and neutral pilots in an area.
    • If a pilot is engaged try to get details on what is on grid as friendly and foe if being used to gather intel on an active engagement.

Explain some items can be warped directly (Fortizars, Athanors, ETC) from this menu, however players and player launched structures (MTU, Mobile Depots, ETC) can not and will need to be combat probed down.

Ask if there are any comments, questions or concerns.

Explain some important topics of Damage mitigation.

  • Turret Tracking.
  • Missile Velocity.
  • Speed Tanking
  • Direct to WTF 206 Damage Mitigation for a detailed dive into the specifics.

DSCAN Live Drill Section

Have the FC ALT (Not In Fleet) warp off and ask the pilots to find your location.

Have the pilots adjust filters on DSCAN through this exercise.

  • Explain benefits of the filters, PvP, NPC, ETC and situations they might be used in.

These filters can be adjusted via an overview pack beyond the default.

Filters do not distinguish between hostile or friendly in DSCAN.

Encourage pilots to preload modules for tackle

  • This is done by left clicking or FX key the module is tied to and then selecting target on overview.
  • This allows the locking to start and immediately actives the module on the target.

Warp to a planet within the 14 AU range.

  • Have every pilot find you and warp to the planet before moving forward
  • Repeat approximately 5- 10 times to give a chance for a new pilot to locate you.

Now warp off again and have the pilots find you.

  • Ask the pilot who found you to post W’s in fleet chat and have all pilots warp to your location.
  • Repeat approximately 5- 10 times to give a chance for a new pilot to locate you.

Demonstrate that a safe can not be DSCANED directly.

  • Make a safe close to a planet to be within DSCAN range to demonstrate this. Mention this will be shown following this exercise.
  • Demonstrate again however warp outside the default scan range of 14 AU to have the pilots get moving in the system looking for you.
  • Repeat any of these subsets as needed.
  • Have the pilots DSCAN and warp to a structure in the system to conclude this portion.

Have the Pilots Align to a planet as well, adjust angle of scan and show how if aligned in space to an object they can DSCAN it without opening the solar system map.

  • Use this in situations where you must be attentive to your surroundings and monitor overview.
  • This is often also faster compared to a solar system map view, but takes some more practice to know exactly where they are.

Ask if there are any comments, questions or concerns.

Safes/Perches

Perches are used to have distance to important objects in space. These include things such as Gates, Stations, Jump Bridges, ETC.

  • Explain how these are useful in a combat situation.
  • Minimum range from object must be 400KM
  • Setup of a battle grid
    • One North Approximately 400KM
    • One South Approximately 400KM
    • One West Approximately 400KM
    • One East Approximately 400KM

Perches Live Drill Section

Have the pilots from the current station burn 400 KM above the station and use the “CRTL + B” shortcut to bookmark a location above the structure.

After bookmarked, pilots warp back to the station.

Have the pilots use the “CRTL + L” shortcut to load the saved bookmark and warp to the location

Safes are used to make spots unable to be warped directly via the DSCAN menu.

  • Explain how this is useful in combat situations or while just traveling in Null.
  • Explain a “True Safe” (Made between muntile safe spots) vs a standard safe.
  • Encourage the pilots to have multiple safes in hostile space, actively contested space, or in frequented systems.

Safes Live Drill Section

Have the pilots warp to a planet.

  • While in warp have the pilots use the “CRTL + B” shortcut to bookmark a location.
  • Repeat 2 to 3 times to allow the pilot to make multiple safes,
  • Have the pilots make a “True Safe”
    • Have the pilots warp to a safe they already made.
    • Then have the pilots warp to the farthest away safe from the previous demo and use the “CRTL + B” shortcut to bookmark a location mid warp.
    • Have them save this as True Safe 1
  • Demo “Rolling Safes” where one pilot will warp to a safe that was made and the FC will warp the fleet to that safe.
  • Repeat as needed.

Ask if there are any comments, questions or concerns.

Tackle

Tackling is using the Warp Scrambler or Warp Disruptor to prevent a target from warping away. This role is critical in a fleet to allow the DPS & Logi wings to get on grid. Tackles will also usually be done with an Interceptor due to its speed and maneuverability.

Explain a Warp Disruptor.

  • Greater Range.
  • Higher CPU Usage.
  • Less Scam Points means some ships can warp away still (Industrials).
  • Easier to use when kiting a target.
  • Ask if there are any comments, questions or concerns.

Explain a Warp Scrambler.

  • Shorter Range.
  • Lower CPU Usage.
  • More Scam Points means most ships can not warp away.
  • Disabled Micro Warp Drives
  • Disables Micro Jump Drives
  • Disables Micro Jump Field Generators
  • Easier to use when brawling a target.
  • Ask if there are any comments, questions or concerns.

Explain a Stasis Webifier

  • Reduces Target's Speed
  • Takes time to apply full effect
  • Can increase enemy align time if applied without a Warp Scrambler or Disruptor
    • Instruct pilots to always use this after a Warp Scrambler or Disruptor
  • Ask if there are any comments, questions or concerns.

Menton Bubbles can be used to tackle as well.

  • Encourage pilots to attend WTF 105 & WTF 106 to learn more about this topic.

Explain counter measures to a Warp Scrambler or Disruptor.

  • Warp Core Stabilizers
    • Increase Warp Core Points (Resistance to Warp Scrambler or Disruptor)
  • ECM Drones
    • Can be used to break lock allowing target to warp
  • Ships given extra Warp Core Points due to role bonuses
    • Deep Space Transports
    • Mining Barges
    • Mining Frigates
    • Titans
    • Super Carriers
  • Instruct pilots to always use this after a Warp Scrambler or Disruptor

Calling Tackle on a target

  • Post W’s in fleet chat
  • Speak up in comms
  • State “Your Name” Point on “Target's Name” in a “Target's Ship”
  • Explain to not use pronouns such as me or I as in a fleet it is difficult to understand specific voices to players or individuals especially if it is a first time on a fleet with that FC.

Tackle Live Drill Section

Undock the fleet and demonstrate the above topics in real time.

Warp off to a planet within the system and have the pilots use their DSCAN to find you.

Once landed, start burning.

Once the pilot has found you instruct them to burn you.

Have them first apply a disruptor.

Once disruption is applied, have the pilots call the target in fleet chat & comms.

Have the pilot close range and try to get a Warp Scrambler applied to the target.

Have pilots when landed add additional points.

Have the pilots try to kill you and fight back.
