There is a basic set of guidelines that applies to all "operations" channels within Mumble. This includes fleet operations, standing fleets & general "meeting" channels.

Should any of these rules be breached, or you are deemed to be impeding operations, Alliance Directors, Coordinators, Mumble Moderators & (Some) Fleet Commands have the authority & capacity to force-mute, or time-out anyone as needed.

Whilst we strive for an open & relaxed atmosphere in these channels, under no circumstances will the below be tolerated.

  • Emotional, Angry or Heated Conversations
    • Cool off, and have a calm discussion in the right setting. In the middle of an operation is not the right time.
  • Political and/or Religion
    • We have individuals from (almost) every country & faith. We do not discuss politics or religion.
  • Hate Speech / Abusive Behavior / Sexual Harassment
    • This includes, but is not limited to any & every characteristics about people. No comments regarding someone's gender, race, sexual orientation, hair color any other thing that is considered abusive.
  • Monologuing
    • This is the job of "fireside guy". Not you.
  • Hot-micing
    • This is when you are continiously holding down your push to talk and we can hear you breathing, singing, talking, clicking your mouse button like you're playing League of Legends. If this happens, you will often be called out and told that you're hot-micing as sometimes no one knows that their fingers are doing.
  • Echoing speakers
    • Get some headphones. No one needs rave level volume for mumble. I know the Fleet Commander's voice is pretty, but your neighbors don't need to hear it.
  • Voice Activation
    • Use Push to Talk. Just. Do. It.
  • Speaking over, or interrupting others
    • This applies especially when you are talking over the Fleet Commander, or other critical personnel on a fleet. In general, the rule of thumb is to stay quiet on fleets unless the fleet commander is talking about the weather, or how spicy mayonnaise is.
    • On busy operations, it's not unusual for a Fleet Commander to be listening to other fleets, their own fleet, members of the command channel, allies etc all at one. Often this can mean they're hearing 20 different conversations and having to focus on one. Make their life easier. Please.

I Messed Up - Now What?

DO NOT MUTE EVADE. RECONNECTING TO CLEAR A MUTE WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING IMMEDIATELY JAILED!

Mistakes happen, especially surrounding hot-micing or attempting to impersonate Voltron with a robo-voice. If this happens, fix the problem & triple check the problem has been solved before your next fleet.

If you are muted or jailed due to things such as hate speech, harassment or abusive behavior, this may result in additional slaps & potentially removal from the alliance.

In summary - don't be an inconvenience when operations or tasks are being carried out, or in public spaces. The intent of these guidelines is to not have complete silence, but to ensure public channels & operations are kept enjoyable to those participating. As always, the general rule: "don't be a dick" can summarise everything.

Getting Help

In the event you need support regarding mumble to handle issues surrounding the above rules, please join the "minicom_public" channel on jabber and ask one of the moderators for help. You can find detailed instructions on the forums ('HERE')

Local key

A "local" push to talk key (Mumble) is normally used in command channels for FCs and those providing key support roles to talk among themselves privately in order to ensure tactical information is not accidentally shared to hostile entities. Speaking to your own channel, excluding the FC is rarely done. If you have a "local" key set up, ensure this is placed far, far away (possibly on another keyboard) to ensure you do not confuse the two.
